Bio
EUGÈNE MIHAESCO (Eugen Mihaescu) was born in Romania in 1937 and studied art in Bucharest.
He left Romania in 1967 and after first settling in Switzerland he went to New York, becoming a regular contributor to The New York Times, Time magazine, The New Yorker magazine where he published 70 covers between 1972-1992.
He also contributed to many other major US and European publications. Mihaesco taught at the Pratt Institute, had one-man shows at the St. Etienne gallery in New York (1981 and 1984), at Centre Pompidou in Paris (“Rire en Roumanie”, 1988) and also participated with ten drawings in the group exhibition called “Art of Times” at the “Musée des Arts Décoratifs”- Louvre, 1974.
Among his many awards is the 1985 Gold Medal from the Art Directors Club of New York.
Eugène Mihaesco works and lives in Bucharest and Montreux.
